The 19th Commerical Bank Qatar Masters (CBQM) will be staged at Doha Golf Club from January 27 to 30. The event, organised by the Qatar Golf Association (QGA), the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), Doha Golf Club and long-term title sponsor Commerical Bank, sits at the heart of the European Tour’s desert swing.
Listen up golf fans, there’s a sporting event coming to Qatar that you won’t want to miss! Teeing off for another year of golf ’s finest is Commercial Bank Qatar Masters 2016 (CBQM).
This year will feature a field of established European Tour champions and rising stars, with a prize fund of $2.5 million up for grabs along with valuable ranking points. Alongside the main tournament will be a wealth of fantastic events and activities for all – this is much more than four days of international golf action; there will be a range of family fun at The Public Village – the most popular social area of the event located to the 9th Fairway of the Academy Course.
Here, you’ll find a huge range of entertainment from outstanding food and beverage options to big screens, tournament radio and live scoring as well as an exclusive shopping boulevard experience for visitors, with a wide selection of accessories, apparel, and many new brands for 2016.
Headlining the tournament on January 29 is world-famous Scottish Pop-Rock band Simple Minds, who will light up the public village, performing a selection of their many hits as part of the CBQM village concert series for thousands of spectators (check out our interview with the band on page 50). In addition, the ever-popular Golf Trick Shot will return to entertain kids and adults alike with their action-packed daily golf show at the driving range. The Family Zone on the lawn beside the clubhouse will allow kids of all ages to try out a range of sports including mini and soft golf alongside gourmet food offerings. The Family Zone also features school workshops with the Doha Golf Club Academy and the launch of a new Academy programme aimed at complete beginners.
The tournament benefits from strong local support as one of the highlights of Qatar’s sporting and social calendar but also attracts many visitors from the UAE, which will host the 2016 European Tour events in Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the weeks before and after the CBQM.
