Bringing traditional Cuban music and Latin American flair to Doha, is the Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club. With deep musical roots dating back to the early decades of the 20th century, the Buena Vista Social Club was, originally, a members’ club in Havana, Cuba, that closed in the 1940’s.
The original club held dances and musical activities, becoming a popular location for musicians to meet and play during the recession. In 1995, nearly 50 years after the club was closed, it inspired a recording made by Cuban musician Juan De Marcos Gonzalez and American guitarist Ry Cooder, with traditional Cuban musicians, which revived the best of the Buena Vista Social Club as it became an international success. Now, several surviving members of the original Buena Vista Social Club, along with new members currently tour worldwide. The 13-member band called Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club will be making a stop in Doha for the first time, on their very last tour named Adios. Make sure you’re there to witness a legendary performance.
GO: Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club will perform at Indigo in Sheraton Grand Doha Resort & Convention Hotel on March 25. Call 4485 4444 for more information.
