Tamba Bar

Tamba made a huge impact on the culinary scene in Abu Dhabi last year and it’s not hard to see why; excellent food and smooth service are at the core of this place. The gorgeous Indian-inspired restaurant, on the 6th floor of The Hub at World Trade Centre Mall, introduced us to its sundowner sessions a couple of months ago and we were wowed. So, imagine our excitement when Tamba called to come and see if they’ve still got the “it” factor – we weren’t disappointed.

Chefs Table Kitchen

The first thing you notice about the restaurant is the stylish décor and low lighting. The venue represents a skillful juxtaposition of innovation and tradition, with its sleek loft-style interior, floor to ceiling windows, exposed tandoor ovens representing the true roots of Indian cuisine and extensive copper bells dangling elegantly from above. We love the slick bar with its emphasis on bronze, copper and timber, and the large outdoor terrace views over the city.

Dining Area

The menu isn’t overwhelming but it offers excellent options with bites, salads, raw, vegetarian and meat (from fish and seafood, to chicken and duck or beef and lamb – they’ve got it all). We love the Watermelon, Rocket and Burrata Salad, which is oh-so-fresh and packed with flavour. Other standouts are the King Crab Puri (to-die-for), Spicy Tuna and Avocado, Seared Salmon with citrus explosion, Bombay Bahji rolls and sweet and sour pumpkin with Spinach Paratha.

We love that every dish derives from true Indian eating, but is presented with a Tamba twist of modern cooking methods and outstanding presentation. These liplicking menu items are perfect for sharing with some of the excellent cocktails on offer, especially if you’re looking for some light bites rather than a large meal. When it comes to the main affair we opt for the 48-hour Slow-cooked Lamb Shank in Rogan Sauce which melts in your mouth for total taste bud seduction – exquisite. If you want a curry with a difference opt for the Smoked Chicken topped with some honey pepper and served in a Tamatar Gravy, and don’t forget to order the delicious naan bread to accompany. Never has a tastier curry graced our palates – LOVE!

All of this was leading up to the mega popular desserts; we, of course, went for The Break-Up and The Bride. The Break-Up consists of a huge ball of dark chocolate mousse, peanut semifreddo and salted caramel – this is smashed by our waiter and covered in chocolate sauce. It’s as heavenly as it sounds and a moment for all chocolate lovers to rejoice! The Bride, a totally white dessert mixing chilli meringue, chantilly cream, raw mango and coconut sorbet is more of an exotic choice. It’s a delectably light, clean offering after a curry and we’d recommend it for adventurous foodies who want a tasty palate cleanser.

Something that stands out at Tamba is the service. The staff is attentive and very knowledgeable – you can feel that they genuinely want you to have a fantastic dining experience, and so you do. Tamba’s arrival has shaken up the food scene in the city, offering a sense of the unexpected and turning the traditional fine dining scene on its head. It’s a must visit for anyone who just loves good food. Like us, you’ll be addicted from the very first visit. ✤
