Hotels that traditionally attract business visitors are often mistaken for being pretty basic. Clean, semi-comfortable and simply functional. To our pleasant surprise, the Hilton Capital Grand Abu Dhabi breaks all of these stereotypes. Honestly speaking, we weren’t sure of what to expect; it’s location in Abu Dhabi’s commercial district near the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre and Zayed Sport City is a great one – only 20 minutes from the airport and with easy access to shopping malls and other popular local attractions, whilst the property itself boasts a luxury spa and a beautiful outdoor pool as well as six restaurants, bars and lounges. All of these features easily place Hilton Capital Grand Abu Dhabi on par with the city’s biggest 5-star resorts, but on top of that, the hotel has eight meeting rooms, a lovely grand ballroom, Executive Lounge and a complimentary 24-hour business centre. So, if business is your main purpose, rest assured that you’re also well catered for.

Our trip was all about leisure (with a few moments to check those all-important emails) and we were nothing short of impressed. After requesting to be accommodated in a room that is suitable for small families or couples looking for the ultimate weekend getaway, we walked into the stunning King Deluxe Suite, which comes with lounge access. On first look, this is hands-down,one of the nicest, cosiest and most practically-designed suites we’ve ever had the pleasure of staying in. Located on the 10th floor, the views overlooking the pool and the city are beautiful. For a hotel that is relatively lowrise in comparison to many other 5-star towers in the UAE capital, this suite gives you a definitive feeling of being high enough for privacy and exclusivity – a huge tick! Space is what this suite is all about – there’s a stylish living room with all your beverage and mini bar amenities, whilst a trendy dining area will sit a family of up to five, very comfortably. The bedroom is accessed through another set of doors and the bathroom is something like you’d find in a fancy home showroom – GORGEOUS! Two 40-inch HDTV screens mean that after a long day of exploring the city, every member of the family can choose to watch their desired channel. However, our favourite thing about this suite had to be the bed.

It’s HUGE, super relaxing and great for lie-ins, especially as the black out curtains do a great job of making sure you get all the sleep you need! The refreshing walkin shower is something we wish we could have at home – you could literally do a fullon pirouette in there without touching the sides (yes, we tried it!). Aside from being uber homely, the suite also beenfits from an extra restroom near the main door, electronic locks and light controls, desk level electric plugs and excellent bathroom amenities. There’s a good chance that you’ll get TOO settled here and find it hard to tear yourself away at the end of the stay! The lounge access and executive benefits that come with staying in this room type are really the icing on the cake. Here, you’ll get complimentary continental breakfast, drinks and snacks throughout the day plus private check-in and checkout – added extras to make your time at Hilton Capital Grand Abu Dhabi as stress-free as possible. With a rollaway bed, this suite sleeps three adults and two children – perfect for a long weekend with the family!

When it comes to food, you’re going to be spoilt for choice at Hilton Capital Grand Abu Dhabi. After walking away with the award for Favourite Latin American restaurant in Abu Dhabi at the FACT Dining Awards 2017, we just had to revisit Noche – the casual yet sophisticated restaurant-cum-bar = cum-lounge. Serving exquisite South American dishes, a musttry is the Quesadilla and Calamari as well as the Tenderloin Angus and the Salmon Fillet – with a side of creamy spinach – Y.U.M.M.Y. The lively yet unobtrusive vibe makes Noche a fabulous place to grab drinks with friends – when the weather’s good, sit on the spacious terrace overlooking the pool, with a cocktail and light bites to accompany. There’s also the all-day dining Oceana and the cosy Tea Lounge, plus the elegant Rouge. The choice is yours!

The fitness club at Hilton Capital Grand Abu Dhabi is one of the most proficient with great equipment and a large space for working out with weights. On top of that, Mizan Spa proved to be the biggest surprise of our stay. It was the embodiment of utter relaxation – segregated wet areas, saunas, steam rooms, plunge pools, an indoor pool, and Moroccan-inspired Hammams – ALL of this plus 15 lovely treatment rooms. You’ll almost feel like you’ve stumbled upon a well-kept secret that everyone outside the hotel has no idea about! Our Classic Swedish Massage by Ernie was potentially the best massage we’ve had all year – no exaggeration. She was professional and attentive to individual needs and we’re sure that our flexibility levels peaked whilst stress decreased – highly recommended during your stay, especially if you work out at the gym. Treatments are available for both men and women.

As far as weekend staycations go, Hilton Capital Grand Abu Dhabi was the most unexpected, enjoyable and sincere hospitality experience we’ve had in a LONG time. Perfect for couples and families – this is a place where the friendly staff are available to cater to every need as much or as little as you want. You’re the guest and you’re made to feel in total control at this modern and stylish hotel – a special place that we’ll return to, very soon.
