It has been an outlet for creatives to express themselves through their art and lens, with works that touch the soul. It has seen the emergence of art that deserves to be admired and observed globally,” he continued. “It is with great pleasure that we are showcasing the best of these works again, celebrating the competition as we prepare for the next stage in supporting the creative community.

Through a vibrant annual programme including exhibitions, workshops, masterclasses, competitions and projects, as well as the establishment of a dedicated space for the art of photography, the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi is developing an infrastructure for a photography community in the capital. As part of this mandate, the department will launch a dedicated space for the art of photography in the newly refurbished Manarat Al Saadiyat. The exhibition will also include a talk on January 17, entitled ‘Journeys in Photography’.
This panel will include two talks; starting with a photographer’s journey towards international recognition by Mohammed Arfan Asif, and ending with a talk on travel photography entitled ‘From Liwa to Ladakh’, by Abbas Kapadia. The Emirates Photography Competition was first launched in 2006 and participation in the first and second editions was limited to UAE nationals.
The third edition expanded participation to embrace the works of photographers from all GCC countries until the competition moved on, in the fourth edition, from the domestic and regional field to the global one, welcoming and opening its doors to photographers from all over the world.
