Spa Review: Heavenly Spa at The Westin Abu Dhabi Golf Resort and Spa

An organic, luxurious and stylish setting for sublime serenity.

Heavenly Spa at The Westin Abu Dhabi Golf Resort and Spa appears to be one of Abu Dhabi’s best-kept secrets. A charming and discreet word of mouth establishment that upon discovery, will make guests wonder why they’ve never visited before. Having spent the last eight years in the capital, we recently ventured into an oasis of tranquillity that we were never aware existed.

Designed in natural tones, Heavenly Spa’s reception area wraps is showcased through an abundance of natural wood, limber bamboo designs and a trickling water feature. The natural elements complement each other and work to bring the outside in, setting the scene for a relaxing spa journey.

Pre-treatment formalities and consultation forms are completed on low-slung couches, backed by a serene waterfall and an engulfing soundtrack of ambient percussion. We’re met with infectious smiles from our therapist and led down a beautifully illuminated corridor to the changing rooms, where we change into a pair of comfortable slippers and a super soft robe.

We take some time to unwind in the pre-treatment relaxation area which is bathed in natural light and offers glimpses of the hotel’s turreted architecture flanked by plenty of foliage and the faint sound of bird song drifts through the air.

The six compact treatment rooms are both simple and functional and feature a massage bed, sink and a ceiling upon which the design of flower petals are traced. Illuminated in ambient yellow hues, a state of relaxation takes hold as soon as the treatment commences.

While the spa offers an appealing array of treatments that include everything from Elemis Biotec Facials Treatments to body treatments, massages and a range of packages aimed specifically at golfers and those searching for relaxation, we opt for the Elemis deeper than deep hot stone massage. Available for either 60 or 90 minutes, the treatments use warm Balinese stones that have been bathed in Frangipani Monoi Body Oil, to work deep into the muscles and reduce areas of tension.

We can only really liken the experience to an ocean, where the heated stones are rubbed against the skin in a rhythmic almost wave-like motion before being deposited at specific pressure points upon the body, including the back of the knee, small of the back and arch of the food. The warmth that emanates from the stones and their weight helps to relax muscles and allow the massage therapist to apply deeper pressure to specific areas without causing discomfort.

A hot stone massage is a perfect treatment for the cooler winter months, and we feel our body radiating with warmth. The benefits of such therapies are believed to alleviate and reduce stress, anxiety, back pain, depression and insomnia. The result for us, however, is sparkling vitality with the bonus of intensely hydrated skin.

We really appreciate the courtesy and professionalism shown by our therapist and while there’s often a sense of urgency to vacate the treatment room following a massage. At Heavenly Spa, guests are encouraged to linger and elongate their experience, if only for a few additional minutes. With the guest experience being of primary concern, the transition through the spa is faultless and we felt as if we were the only guests during our visit.

If you want to try out the Heavenly Spa experience, then we’d suggest the Me-Monday promotion. The package currently only available for ladies (sorry guys) consists of three mini treatments (a back massage, mini facial and a foot massage or scrub), pool access, a selection of delightful appetizers, and hot beverages. Available every Monday from 9am to 2pm its priced at a very competitive AED 299.
