An exciting new addition to the region’s culinary scene, Santavoglia – a contemporary Italian restaurant with a difference – will be opening its door in Bahrain later this year.

Santavoglia, which translates to a deep desire to delight the senses, is shaping a new kind of culinary experience – one that merges modern Italian cooking with artistic presentation and innovative methods.

Originally launched in January 2023 by the old gates of Lecce, South Italy, Santavoglia is the creation of Chef Antonio Camilli and has quickly gained attention for its distinctive approach to modern Italian dining. Now, heading to the Gulf, it brings with it a concept that promises to stand out.

This isn’t your typical Italian restaurant – Santavoglia rethinks the experience entirely. Bahraini spices are fused with modern Italian fare, along with fermentation practices woven into the food and beverage preparations. Diners will be able to experience a contemporary Italian culinary journey that strikes a thoughtful balance between taste and artistic presentation.

An emerging culinary talent on the gastronomic world stage, Chef Antonio’s culinary background speaks for itself. Reimagining Italian cuisine through an authentic interpretation of seasonality, Chef Antonio highlights individual ingredients inspired by the rhythms of nature. He began his career in London working for prestigious restaurants and celebrated chefs, including L’Atelier by Joël Robuchon (named Chef of the Century by Gault Millay in 1989, holding 31 Michelin Guide stars amongst his collection of restaurants) and Murano by Angela Hartnett (OBE, Michelin-starred chef and protegee of Gordon Ramsay). He then moved to Melbourne to work at Guy Grossi’s (awarded the L’insegna Del Ristorante Italiano) two Chef’s Hats restaurant Florentino.

Set to open in late 2025, the GCC launch will mark the next chapter for this bold restaurant. For anyone looking for something original, where Italian cooking is reimagined through a different lens, Santavoglia is one to watch!
