Al Dasha Cup 2026, a landmark tournament organised by Qatar Foundation’s (QF) Ability Friendly Program, brought youth footballers with physical disabilities together to celebrate sport, inclusion and community
The Education City Stadium was filled with energy and excitement as the two-day flagship football tournament, held on January 19-20 and designed to promote inclusive and ability-friendly sports participation across the country, welcomed 12 teams from QF schools as well as government and private schools and external centers and institutions, reflecting the growing support for inclusive sports nationwide.
The tournament featured competitive opportunities in the Under-10 and Under-16 categories, encouraging participants to develop their physical fitness, teamwork and confidence. By providing a structured platform for youth footballers of all abilities, the Al Dasha Cup challenges societal perceptions of disability and highlights that talent, dedication and passion have no boundaries.
“Events like the Al Dasha Cup celebrate every student’s effort and foster meaningful social connections,” said Asma Zarrouk, Special Needs Sports Coach, from the Ability Friendly Program.
“Inclusive sports empower young athletes, build confidence and create joyful, memorable experiences for everyone involved.”
This year’s edition marked a significant expansion. While last year’s inaugural tournament was exclusive to QF schools, Al Dasha Cup 2026 welcomed teams from external schools and centers, demonstrating the growing reach of the Ability Friendly Program and its ongoing commitment to fostering inclusive, structured, and competitive sporting opportunities across Qatar.
The tournament was held in partnership with leading national sports organisations, including the Qatar Sports For All (QSFA), Special Olympics Qatar, Qatar Football Association (QFA), and Qatar Paralympic Committee, reinforcing its national significance and credibility.
“The Al Dasha Cup reflects our belief that football belongs to everyone,” said Jassim Al Hail, Vice President Referee Department at QFA.
“By supporting inclusive tournaments, we empower young players with physical disabilities, promote equal opportunity and reinforce sport as a unifying force in our society.
“Fairness in officiating at the Al Dasha Cup strengthens the spirit of competition and affirms the essential role of people with disabilities within the sports ecosystem. It also delivers an ethical message that promotes fair play and respect for abilities.”
Abdullah Al-Dosari, Executive Director, QSFA, added: “This initiative demonstrates how inclusive sports can transform lives, build confidence and strengthen social bonds. Through the Al Dasha Cup, we encourage participation, wellbeing and a culture where everyone can thrive through sport.
“QSFA organises sports and recreational activities suitable for people with disabilities. Our role in organising the Al Dasha Cup comes as part of the Ability Friendly Program, supporting inclusion and enhancing sports participation for people with disabilities within the community.”
Over the two-day tournament, participants displayed remarkable skill, determination and sportsmanship, earning applause from coaches, families, and supporters. The event not only celebrated individual efforts but also strengthened the sense of community and inclusion, showing how sports can unite young athletes of all abilities and inspire meaningful connections across Qatar.
