These two new mini homegrown concepts act as a prelude to the Kushi by Reif launch later this year.

Amidst the ongoing the global pandemic, award-winning chef Reif Othman has expanded his Dubai restaurant offering to Palm Jumeirah with the opening of a cake and chirashi counter at Depachika Food Hall in Nakheel Mall.

The counter menu boasts 13 desserts that feature Reif’s signature Japanese spin on classic desserts. Including goma (sesame) cheesecake, matcha rolls, yuzu éclairs and a delightful tiramisu boba.

For those who favour savoury over sweet, four cold chirashi bowls with a base of quinoa or brown rice topped with sashimi-style protein are also available.

In other exciting news from Reif, weekends will see the arrival of a donburi pop-up, featuring six warm rice bowls served with a variety of toppings. Including the Tori Karaage (crispy marinated chicken, scrambled egg and simmered dashi sauce) and the Nasu Katsu Curry (breaded eggplant, vegetable curry and crispy baby potatoes). The donburis will be limited to only 200 per day on Fridays and Saturdays – so make sure you arrive early!

Prices start at a reasonable AED24 for desserts, AED60 for chirashi and AED62 for donburi. All dishes are available for dine-in and take-away.

“Every crisis also opens up opportunities. With demand for comfort food on the rise given the pandemic, I am keen to offer customers some savoury dishes and desserts now, as a taster of the Kushi by Reif concept that will launch later this year. Simple, classic cakes and Japanese rice bowls – all with my own trademark twist. With this new Palm Jumeirah location, we are now able to easily feed residents across that side of town as well as Jumeirah,” said chef-owner Reif Othman.

These two homegrown concept introductions work as a prelude to the Kushi by Reif eatery that will open at Depachika in Nakheel Mall later this year. Kushi by Reif is the little sister of the Singaporean chef’s acclaimed Reif Japanese Kushiyaki that opened in August last year and will feature a smaller menu of casual Japanese fare. We cannot wait!
