Welcome to the future, a time when tech can access your subconscious and make a record of your dreams.
OK, it’s not available just yet having been introduced as a concept mid-2025, but on these pages, we’re always looking towards the future and this sounds pretty awesome.
The Dream Recorder from Modem Works is described as a magical bedside device that catches your nightly visions and plays them back as vivid cinematic reels.
The idea is that you capture your subconscious in ultra-low definition. Wake up, speak your dream aloud in any language and watch it come to life as a dreamscape in the aesthetic of your choice. And, you can sleep without distractions as Dream Recorder works on its own, free from apps and notifications, leaving only a gentle glow in the dark.
It’s the ultimate dream journal as seven slots store a week of dreams – your personal archive of the subconscious. Play back your nighttime visions and reflect on their meanings as they echo into waking life.
It’s honestly not clear how the tech works but the website says you can build your own by downloading the open-source code, gathering the off-the-shelf hardware components, 3D printing the shell and assembling everything together. No soldering required.
We really want to give this a try. ✤
