Al Riwaq Art Space has launched Residual Spaces, an art exhibition featuring seven Bahraini artists who were part of the Application 006 art residency programme: Ghalia Abdul Jawad, Mahmood Alsharqawi (Huvil), Maram Al Suliman, Mariam Al Noaimi, Sarah M. Redha, Samar Aleskafi and Yusuf Qambar.

The Residual Spaces exhibition is scheduled to open on June 9 and it will continue until July 23.  Visitors can also attend an Artists’ Talk which will take place on June 13 from 6pm to 7pm.

The exhibition fosters a space for reflection, inviting audiences to consider what remains after an experience and how the traces of memory, emotion and social encounter continue to shape our understanding of ourselves and the spaces we inhabit.

Over the past months, the artists have engaged with processes of reflection, observation and recollection, examining the ways in which memory settles, resurfaces and reverberates through time. Their practices explore the echoes of lived experience and the subtle ways in which moments, encounters and emotions continue to shape our understanding of the present.

Through diverse visual languages, the exhibition unfolds as a constellation of narratives and encounters. The works range from installations to minimalist interventions, abstract compositions and theatrical environments, each rooted in personal inquiry and emotional resonance. Together, they reveal how memories and experiences continue to inhabit spaces long after the moments themselves have passed.

Residual Spaces invites audiences to engage both intellectually and emotionally, navigating between individual and collective narratives. These residual spaces become sites of reflection and negotiation, where memory is understood not as a static record of the past, but as an active and evolving presence. Through this engagement, the artworks offer multiple points of entry for interpreting what remains, revealing residue not simply as a remnant of what has been, but as a force that continually shapes our relationship to the present.
