With temperatures currently at peak furnace, the island’s food and beverage outlets are going out of their way to help you keep cool. From speciality drinks to dreamy desserts, there’s something to suit every taste. Read on for a selection of our favourite summer coolers.

BREWED

A hidden gem, tucked away in the Diplomatic Area, there’s no secret about Brewed’s superior coffee offering. But for summer, they’ve come up with some rather special cooler options in the shape of Pina colada – light, refreshing and practically screams ‘out of office’, a sip of pure sunshine at just BD2.5 – and Mango Coconut Matcha – refreshing, creamy and just the right amount of matcha energy, at BD2.8.
But there’s another favourite they didn’t tell us about, the Brazilian Limeade – creamy, citrusy, refreshing and dangerously easy to finish – perhaps they really are keeping this one a secret. Well, now you know where to find it.

CARIBOU COFFEE

Summer’s all about the matcha at The Bou and we’re totally here for it. Caribou Coffee has unveiled eight, yep eight, new matcha creations: Sky, Lavender, Mango, Strawberry, Hojicha, Hibiscus and Pink and Blue Cocotcha – a gorgeous creamy, coconutty concoction. Why eight? Because one flavour just isn’t enough, of course. Summer Matcha boxes are available exclusively at the Hala Plaza branch, guess where we’ll be at the weekend? And, if that wasn’t enough, they’ve also got summer brew boxes – six bottles of smooth cold-brew coffee, available across all branches and on Talabat. We feel a coffee cold one coming on.

CHOCOMELT

Yes, Chocomelt is known for its amazing cakes (we’re particularly fond of the Matilda) but with the weather demanding we all slow down and chill out – the outlet, which has branches at Zallaq and Al Liwan, is all about refreshing summer flavours.
Check out Dragonfly – a blend of fresh mango, vanilla soft serve, milk and honey, topped with fresh dragon fruit – or the Sky Blue Matcha, a smooth mix of Uji matcha, with milk and homemade sweet white chocolate sauce and a creamy baby foam.

DOSE

While everyone else is going big on the matcha, Dose, which has eight branches across the island, including Hidd, Juffair, Saar and Zallaq, is stepping into the more traditional hot-weather fare with a selection of fruity iced teas in refreshing summer flavours. Alongside the classics, passion fruit and peach, they’ve added Happy Forest, a delightful blend of raspberry and hibiscus that’s an ideal thirst quencher.
But don’t worry, if you’re a Dose coffee die-hard, you can still get your favourite Iced Americano, Iced V60 and Cold Drip too. And, not surprisingly, there’s also premium matcha on the menu.

FLORENCIA

One of our favourite ice cream shops is getting into the summer spirit – well, to be fair, it’s in the summer spirit all year long. But now, they have sharing boxes – grab four flavours of your choice (yes, that will be four mascarpone and orange, please) and share with your friends… or not. Available for delivery.

KADOURA

The new summer menu at Kadoura at Seef Mall features a range of zesty Mediterranean flavours with lemon infusions all around. But the bit that caught our eye is the ice cream, served with a half lemon on top. Go for the food, stay for the freshness. We love this idea.

NOOK BAKEHOUSE

OK, you caught us. Nook’s usually our go-to spot for all things cake – if you haven’t tried the double chocolate brownie, you haven’t lived. But, since we’re on the subject of summer coolers, we have to mention the two special drinks they’ve introduced for when we just need to chill. The Peach Iced Tea is a classic, fruity and refreshing, and we’re told the Mango Matcha is rather fab, we’re imagining the deeply umami, slightly bitter flavour of matcha with a spike of sweet juicy mango. Yum. Somehow, we think it would go perfectly with one of their almond croissants. See you in Zayed Town.

PLACE CAFÉ

Place, at Saar Greens, is not just the place for great brunchy stuff, though we have to admit we’re rather partial to the avocado toast and pancakes. But, when we’re looking to beat the summer’s fierce heat, we head there for our latest drink obsessions – the best-selling Salted Vanilla Matcha, Coco Blue Matcha and the Matcha Colada – matcha, coconut foam and flakes, pina coco syrup and a juicy chunk of pineapple. And they start at just BD2.900, what’s not to love?
We’re also rather partial to the fruity berry hibiscus concoction and the great coffee, steaming hot and in proper mugs, but that’s a story for another day.

We can’t imagine summer coolers without mentioning Scoop – and don’t come at us, this list is alphabetical, we love them all! Scoop’s had a mini closure for some behind the scenes renovation work so, while we’re not actually here to share any particular summer offers, we are telling you they’re open and back to business as usual, serving the much-loved, small-batch, uniquely flavoured, handmade gelato that’s made them a very firm favourite with you and us.

Anyone who’s visited knows The Orangery is not just a pretty face. It has branches at The Avenues and Al Liwan, as well as the very gorgeous original at Palmyard Hotel in Adliya, each serving amazing food in picturesque surroundings.
