Learn To Craft

Al Jasra Handicrafts Centre is back with a series of traditional craft workshops this month, offering hands-on learning rooted in heritage.
The handicraft workshops are designed to give participants a practical understanding of long-established creative skills that have been part of the local culture for generations. All sessions are held in Arabic and English, with all tools and materials included.
What: Weaving Workshop
When: July 12, 19, 26 | 10am to 12.30pm
Where: Bani Jamra Weaving Textiles Factory
This workshop focusses on one of Bahrain’s oldest crafts. Once a thriving trade in villages such as Abu Saiba, Dar Kulaib, Maqabah and Bani Jamra, traditional weaving played a vital role in supplying fabrics across the Gulf. Participants will learn about the types of threads used and how to operate a textile weaving machine. By the end of the course, they will have created a model piece of fabric cloth of their own. Priced at BD30, it’s open to ages 14 and above.

What: Resin Pressed Flowers Workshop
When: July 16 | 4.30pm to 6.30pm
Where: Al Jasra Crafts Centre
This session introduces the fundamentals of resin art – a versatile technique used in everything from jewellery and accessories to home décor. Participants will learn how to prepare and handle resin safely, using protective gear and following proper mixing techniques. The workshop will cover how to pour resin into moulds, add colour, glitter or stickers and embed natural or artificial flowers. Tips on bubble removal, polishing and surface finishing are also included, helping participants complete a professional-looking piece. Priced at BD20, the workshop is open to ages 18 and above.

What: Perfume & Makhmariya Making Workshop
When: July 28 and 29 | 4.30pm to 6.30pm
Where: Al Jasra Handicrafts Centre
This workshop blends theory and practice in the art of Arabic and French perfumes and Makhmariya (a type of fermented hair and skincare product) creation. Attendees will be guided through the different types and classifications of perfumes and yeasts, the components and sources of raw materials, aromatic notes and scent concentrations. Participants can then craft perfumes and Makhmariya of their own design. Priced at BD30, the workshop is open to ages 16 and above. ✤
