Marine Heritage Sports Season Returns!

Join the festivities as one of Bahrain’s beloved sports events makes a comeback, with exciting new competitions and the continuation of classic traditions.

A significant fixture in the Kingdom’s cultural calendar, the much-anticipated Nasser bin Hamad Marine Heritage Sports Season kicked off at the end of August with great enthusiasm. Now in its seventh edition, the event is organised by the Bahrain Inherited Traditional Sports Committee (Mawrooth) and will run for three months, until November.

This season promises a thrilling lineup of competitions designed to celebrate and revive the island’s rich maritime heritage. New to the roster are two exciting events: the Heritage Swimmer competition, featuring open water swimming held over two rounds, and a breath-holding competition that measures participants’ underwater endurance.

Traditional favourites will also return, including the 24-hour Al-Hadag fishing competition and the popular rowing races for heritage boats in the 30-foot category. The latter event will be held over two rounds and see the top competitors advance to the grand final, vying for the prestigious His Majesty the King’s Cup.

Ahmed Al Shamlan, Director of Competitions at Nasser bin Hamad Marine Heritage Sports Season, highlighted the committee’s dedication to attracting Bahraini youth to participate in the competition.

Registration for all competitions is currently open on the committee’s official website at www.almawrooth.org/registrationsea. Stay updated of the location and timings of the events through the Mawrooth Instagram page. ✤
