A selection of the new movies and TV releases you won’t want to miss this month.

DISCLOSURE DAY

Director: Steven Spielberg
Cast: Emily Blunt, Colman Domingo, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, Josh O’Connor

A star-studded cast tells the story of what happens when ‘the truth is out there’ suddenly becomes real. A meteorologist and a young whistleblower discover proof of alien life but, not surprisingly, there are factions who want a cover up. The plot follows our heroes as they attempt to evade a posse of shadowy, dark villains. Expect strange phenomena and sci-fi elements.

TOY STORY 5

Director: Andrew Stanton
Cast: Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Tom Hanks, Annie Potts, Keanu Reeves

In a tale that feels very much of our times, the traditional toys get a rude awakening when they’re introduced to Lilypad, an electronic tablet and Bonnie’s new favourite thing. Cowboy Woody, who left the gang to help lost toys in the last instalment, is drawn back in to join his pals in what feels like a battle against an existential threat.

SCARY MOVIE 6

Director: Andrew Tiddes
Cast: Anna Faris, Regina Hall, Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans

They’re back in another comedy-horror parody romp just in time for the long summer holiday season. Cindy, played by Anna, is reinvented as a supernatural investigator who takes a youth potion – we all know how that will turn out – as she, Brenda and Shorty battle a murderous AI doll. Ghostface also returns, of course, this time dressed as various modern horror characters. The climax is chaotic and great fun.

APPLE TV+
CAPE FEAR

Creator: Nick Antosca
Cast: Amy Adams, Javier Bardem, Lily Collias, CCH Pounder, Patrick Wilson

A remake of the remake, this 10-episode thriller sees Javier Barden as the brooding killer, Max Cady, who’s released after years in prison and vows revenge on Anna and Tom Bowden, the lawyers who put him there. This time around, we get a closer look at the Bowdens’ own secrets and moral dilemmas as they battle to save themselves and their family from the ex-con’s psychological and physical terrors.
