China’s top car makers spotlighted their latest models and future technologies at an exhibition determined to establish the country’s ability to compete on the international stage.
With Chinese car brands currently holding a significant 15-20% market share across the GCC, a figure that’s expected to exceed 30% by the end of the decade, the latest automotive news out of Beijing is always eagerly anticipated.
From intelligent driving to ultrafast charging and other cuttingedge technologies in areas such as batteries and electric vehicles, analysts say Beijing International Auto Show 2026 illustrated an industry that’s setting the global pace.
More than 1,450 vehicles were on display at this year’s show, including 181 global debuts and 71 concept cars. The event attracted 1.28 million visitors, including 65,000 from overseas, and personnel from more than 70 embassies and consulates.
Participants included automakers, suppliers and technology firms from 21 countries and regions, spanning vehicle development, core components and intelligent systems.
Upwards of 50 industry summits, seminars, industry exchanges and targeted procurement matchmaking events were held concurrently with the exhibition.
Intelligent connected new energy vehicles have become an important engine for China’s development of new-quality productivity and a core track for global industrial competition. This year’s exhibition showcased the latest achievements and trends in the integrated development of electrification, intelligentisation (embedding artificial intelligence, machine learning and advanced data analytics into existing systems) and connectivity.
It included cutting-edge technologies such as the integration of AI large-scale models into vehicles and the commercialisation of Level 3 autonomous driving, marking the automotive industry’s official entry into a new era of intelligent mobility.
Several companies showcased next-generation power batteries with energy densities exceeding 400Wh/kg and ranges exceeding 1,500km; technologies such as nine-minute flash charging and ultra-fast charging at -30°C were also demonstrated. Several mass-produced hydrogen fuel cell vehicles were unveiled with improvements in fuel cell performance and reduced refuelling time.
