Nine Decades Of Excellence

The British Club of Bahrain celebrates its 90th anniversary with an exciting mix of music, games and a taste of Britain for everyone to enjoy.

Celebrating Britain’s ‘Home away from Home’, The British Club of Bahrain is gearing up for its 90th anniversary festivities on February 7 at the club’s premises in Umm Al Hassam, honouring its longstanding presence in the community.

Founded in 1935 as the Gymkhana Club, it started as a social hub for British expatriates, primarily military personnel and British residency staff. What started as a modest building with two Nissen huts, a single tennis court and a swimming pool has, over the years, grown into a well-established, vibrant community venue offering a wide variety of sports and social activities for adults and children.

The anniversary celebration promises a full day of entertainment. A highlight of the event will be The Great British Club Bake Off; a chance for amateur bakers to show off their baking skills, with judging by H.M. Ambassador to Bahrain, Alastair Long. Live music will feature The Beatles For Sale, a tribute band from the UK, as well as performances from The British Club Band, The British Club Junior Band and The British Club Rock Band.

For those looking for some friendly competition, the day will also include interactive game shows, such as It’s a Knockout and Family Fortunes, with team challenges. The British Bazaar will offer British-themed food, drinks and merchandise, while inflatables and a Children’s Zone will keep youngsters entertained. There will also be plenty of food and drink stations for all to enjoy.

Set to be a lively tribute to the club’s long history, with a packed schedule and a welcoming atmosphere, the event is free for all, starting from 12pm onwards and continuing into the evening. ✤
