Some great new sounds for you to check out this month.
PHANTOM ISLAND
By King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard

Almost unbelievably, this June release is the 27th studio album from the ridiculously prolific Aussie rockers – they put out five albums a year in both 2017 and 2022! Known for psychedelic rock rhythms and microtonal (betweenthe-keys) sounds, Phantom Island promises a new vulnerable reflection but we’re also treated to multiple genres from ‘70s-style soft rock to jazzy crooning. And the orchestral nature of some tracks is no surprise when you consider Chad Kelly, a Baroque specialist, was part of the project.
IDOLS
By Yungblud

Released to coincide with the Brit singer’s self-organised Blud Fest – described as not ‘just a festival’ – it’s a movement, a family and a space where individuality thrives – this fourth album from the Doncaster-born rocker is described by Kerrang! as ‘a go-getter of a record that pays homage to the greats whilst still feeling brand new’. The singer himself describes it as an attempt to make something classic and timeless – ‘wanting to build a world that would allow you to go on an adventure that would question the fundamentals of humanity, time, change, life, death and comprehend immortality. All I want to do is make people feel something!’ Big ambitions!
RASPBERRY MOON
By Hotline TNT

Born from the solo project of frontman Will Anderson, who created previous albums entirely alone, Raspberry Moon marks the collective’s first outing as a full band. More positive on the subjects of love and romance than Will Anderson’s earlier offerings, the man himself says it’s a product of the happiest relationship he’s had so far in his life. That’s demonstrated by the move away from the shoegaze feel of earlier releases to include some fizzing power-pop tracks and plenty of guitar-hero moments to keep the rockers happy.
