SEEING STARS

Huawei’s trendy new flagship model and camera king is set to take the market by storm.

When it comes to purchasing a new smartphone, the process can be a little daunting. With so many brands and models available in the market, where do you even begin searching for the perfect device to suit your needs, especially if you are not particularly tech-savvy? At FACT magazine we have made it our mission to try out some of the latest and greatest smartphones and to deliver our findings to you, our readers.

This month we set our eyes on the Huawei Nova 9, a new device that is already drawing a lot of attention. The Nova 9, housing the EMUI 12 smart operating system and a powerful camera setup with all-new videography features, is the latest flagship device from Huawei. Design wise, it is only 7.77mm thick with a weight of 175g. The phone comes in two colour options namely black and the new Colour No.9 colourway, a lowsaturation bluish purple finish, created especially for this phone through an all-new Starry Flash AG Glass process.

The Nova 9 features a Nebula-inspired Star Orbit Ring, along with a crystal clear, 16.68cm, 120Hz curved display with tapered surface. This stunning screen can display 1.07 billion colours and features a refresh rate of up to 120Hz as well as a 300Hz touch sampling rate, ensuring a super smooth experience for all, including ardent mobile gamers. In short, we found this new Huawei smartphone to be stylish, lightweight, responsive and an absolute pleasure to operate.

The camera setup, however, is where this smartphone really begins to shine. The rear camera system includes a 50MP Ultra Vision Camera, an 8MP Ultra Wide Angle Camera, a 2MP Depth Camera and a Macro Camera, allowing you to capture as close as 4cm. Geared for vlogging, both front and rear cameras support 4K shooting at 30fps making it easy to shoot short videos for social media. This combined with the Nova 9’s XD Fusion Engine ensures high quality capturing each and every time. We found the 32MP front camera great for taking selfies as well as for video shooting.

There are also loads of AI effects and filters available for use that we found to be very functional and entertaining. The most novel feature of the camera setup is, in fact, a world first. Continuous Front/Rear Recording allows you to switch between the front and rear cameras within a single video file, meaning you don’t have to stop recording to change cameras. Dual-View Video recording enables users to capture highdefinition footage whilst talking to the camera, as well as to capture a close-up shot and a wide angle shot at the same time with no editing required. With loads of other impressive features associated with this smartphone, including the excellent battery life that takes only 38 minutes to fully charge, we believe you simply can’t go wrong with the outstanding new Huawei Nova 9. ✤
