Rotana’s latest venture into the UAE capital is marked by Saadiyat Rotana Resort and Villas, a five-star property offering understated luxury and a focus of fun for the entire family.
While development along Saadiyat Island’s natural coastline has been rife in recent years, Saadiyat Rotana is found on a beautifully developed stretch of sand, providing visitors with a sense of serenity just ten minutes drive from Downtown Abu Dhabi.
Since the global pandemic has taken away the option of international travel for many of us, life for many UAE residents revolves around hotels and staycation. First impressions are critical, and while we often become blasé to our surroundings, Saadiyat Rotana makes its mark with a minimalistic lobby in which sand from all seven Emirates can be found inlaid within glass panels in the floor. Meanwhile, large floor-to-ceiling windows provide impressive vistas over verdant swaying palm fronds and out to sea.
Saadiyat Rotana is a hotel that fully embraces and relishes in its beachfront location while managing to pay homage to local traditions. It may be a beach resort, but it’s one in which staff exude charm, warmth and hospitality, and our check-in procedures are completed promptly and with gusto.
THE SUITE LIFE:
Despite being two years old, the property which still retains a new sheen while boasting modern and appealing stylings that carry seamlessly from the public areas and into the bedrooms. Comprising 327 rooms and suites and 13 beach villas, Saadiyat Rotana cleverly balances casual elegance with contemporary style to reflect the resort’s premier beachside setting.
Our Saadiyat Suite clocks in at a whopping 170sqm and features uninterrupted sea views from the two spacious balconies. Offering the ideal haven to settle into island life, the suite provides luxurious home comforts, including an oversized living and dining area and elegant furnishings inspired by the natural colours of the beach. With king and twin bed options available, this particular beachside sanctuary is suitable for families or small groups. The decor is kept to a minimum except for the essentials, and the king-size bed is probably the biggest we have ever slept in, piled high with plump pillows and an incredibly comfortable duvet. The room also features a writing desk, seating area, double vanity, walk-in rain shower and a deep bathtub that is perfect for soaking in.
DRASTICALLY DIFFERENT DINING:
With eight unique dining experiences on offer, guests are truly spoilt for choice! Whether you’re interested in the Italian delights at Si Ristorante Italiano and Bar, pub grub classics at Hamilton’s Gastropub, delightful grills at Turtle Bay or a toes-in-the-sand cocktail at Nasma Beachfront Bar, Saadiyat Rotana has something for every palate.
Our recent weekend stay coincided with the resort’s Friday Market Brunch at all-day-dining restaurant SimSim. This brunch is regarded as one of the most expansive and popular Friday choices in Abu Dhabi.
The market feels begin from the moment we enter, with wooden tressels and crates loaded with organic fruit and vegetables. This visual assault of colour is utilised for more than just thematics, and the fresh produce can be purchased to take home. Inside the restaurant, an international buffet overwhelms diners with everything from the expected salads and cold cuts, through to a sumptuous Indian corner and an Asian section featuring dim sum and Peking duck. The carefully constructed sushi embodies a variety of fillings. It is a popular choice, alongside the expansive carvery, boulangerie and bakery – replete with freshly baked bread and a selection of European cheeses.
The best part of this particular brunch is the premium feel with the likes of oysters, caviar and a seafood market set-up where guests can select from an iced display of fresh seafood that includes lobsters, Mahi Mahi and lemon sole, which are grilled to perfection on the outside barbecue.
With Saadiyat Island offering 9km of pristine coastline, in addition to mangrove and wetland areas and the Saadiyat Beach dune ecosystem, the beach is always going to be the primary draw for guests. The resorts untouched swathe of white sand and turquoise waters could easily be mistaken for the Caribbean Sea rather than the Arabian Gulf and is pleasantly unmarred by construction. Guests have the opportunity to stroll along the natural stretch of coastline unhindered, and if you’re lucky (as we were), you may even spot pods of dolphins frolicking close to the shoreline. Sun loungers and umbrellas are spaced appropriately along the beachfront enabling guests to find their slice of island paradise.
Between the beach and the main hotel building, there is a family-friendly swimming pool, flanked by palm trees and turtle fountains which spit water from their mouths. The resort also offers tennis courts, the state-of-the-art Bodylines Fitness Club, mini-golf and Aladdin’s Cave, a dedicated kids club featuring a lazy river, splash pool, cinema zone, and a water slide!
While the little ones are occupied, adults can escape to Zen the spa at Rotana, featuring elegantly-designed treatment rooms and unique wellbeing options such as Turkish and Moroccan Hammam and Himalayan treatments.
Saadiyat Rotana Resort & Villas may be a relatively new addition to Abu Dhabi’s luxury hotel market, Rotana’s latest foray into the capital is one to be applauded and is entirely on-brand in its representation of luxury and sophistication. Located close to both the Louvre Abu Dhabi and the leisure attractions of Yas Island, Saadiyat Rotana offers an island escape close to home.
