Nostalgic Tunes

Brighton singer and songwriter, set to make her Bahrain debut at McGettigan’s on June 8, talks about her new album and artistic inspirations.

Tell us about your new album Something Good. What was the creative process like?
The process was amazing. In terms of songwriting, the album’s song were written over a time span of five to six years, so when it came to the recording and producing side, it felt like I was making a showcase album of myself since I had started writing. The songs felt a bit like snapshots of a particular part of my life, and re-recording them for the album often made me think I remember that. Watching the songs grow when working with my producer Richard Taylor, was an incredible experience. He, along with some incredible musicians, added so many elements that I would have never found my myself, and just took them from guitar songs to an album.

Where do you draw your inspiration from for your songwriting?
Writing is a massively personal thing, I think. Whether an artist likes it or not, the songs they write are little sneak peeks into their thoughts or feelings, but I imagine that’s why fans are so fascinated by it. I draw inspiration from anything or anyone that happens to me, although that comes with its own problems. I also love listening to other artists and trying to work out how and why their songs are so interesting, and I try to take some of that back into my own songs.

What major highlights should we watch out for at your Bahrain performance?
I can’t wait for the Bahrain performance as I’ll get to play with my gorgeous girls in the band. We’ve got some absolute gems of songs in our setlist, and have been working on a couple of things that will make it a show! McGettigan’s offers such an incredible atmosphere, and I think one of the biggest highlights will be the audience’s energy, and how much we can give that back.

You visited Dubai a few years back and now Bahrain? What do you most love about this part of the world?
This part of the world is stunning. It seems to have a beautiful blend of ancient and modern in all aspects. I’d love to see the old towns, as well as explore the cities more than I got to last time! I’m so excited to see Bahrain and its natural beauty, as well as experience the culture and people.
