BAHRAINI FARMERS’ MARKET RETURNS!
The 11th edition of the Farmers’ Market makes a comeback, promising an array of local flavours and seasonal delights.
The much-anticipated annual Bahraini Farmers’ Market is back for its 11th edition and promises to be bigger and better, attracting more local and international visitors and participants than last year. Running weekly from December to April, the market is being held every Saturday at the Budaiya Botanical Gardens, from 8am to 2pm.
Organised by the Agriculture and Marine Resources Directorate within the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, the market aims to support local farmers, motivate them to diversify their products and introduce new varieties of indemand produce. It also acts as a platform for farmers to reach thousands of locals and residents.
Established in 2012, the Farmers’ Market was envisioned as a driving force for strengthening Bahrain’s agriculture sector, encouraging sustainable food production and promoting the sale of locally grown produce. Year after year, it has blossomed into a seasonal attraction for agricultural enthusiasts and foodies alike.
In announcing the launch, His Excellency Engineer Wael bin Nasir Al-Mubarak, the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture, stated that the initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to investing in food security. He also emphasised the importance of investment from the private sector, highlighting the partnership with the National Initiative for the Development of the Agricultural Sector, headed by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabika bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa.
Highlighting its growing popularity, this year’s market boasts the participation of 34 Bahraini farmers, three agricultural companies, four agribusinesses and numerous small enterprises.
To enhance the visitor experience, organisers have also curated a series of programmes and events. This season’s restaurant corner will see a larger number of booths, with 16 distinguished Bahraini restaurants and cafés offering a tantalising mix of local flavours, while providing picnic areas within the Botanical Gardens.
So, mark your calendars and join in celebrating Bahrain’s bountiful harvests and culinary delights at this season’s Bahraini Farmers’ Market. ✤
