LA DELICIOUS VITA

Considering The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain is synonymous with world-class hospitality, it’s no surprise that Primavera stands for culinary perfection, as FACT’s Layal El Mahmoud finds out.

Entering the revolving doors of The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain will forever be as exciting as the first time simply because you know what awaits: pure joy. Amidst the many dining options offering Italian flavours around the island, Primavera will always be a crown jewel. Casual yet classy with a familial and warm atmosphere, its indoor space features dim lighting and multiple seating choices, while the inviting terrace offers privacy amongst olive trees.

As for the open kitchen? It allows sporadic glimpses into the non-stop action, which you can learn more about with the help of the welcoming and extremely friendly staff. Not only can they make menu recommendations and guide you on ingredient specifics, but they’re also well-informed on any new dishes and weekend specials on offer. And if our last jaunt to Primavera is any indication, loyal patrons can frequently look forward to both. In what felt like a ‘special’ corner, we were seated on a large table that can comfortably accommodate eight people, the opulence of light and a great deal of privacy only adding to its appeal. A basket of warm bread soon gave company to the candlelight, making for the perfect start to a perfect meal. Add some extravirgin olive oil and a little bit of balsamic vinegar, and it’s a starter that we’ll never tire of.

The Mamma Mia platter is perfect if you’re dining out as a group and looking to try a bit of everything. The bruschetta with cherry tomatoes and creamy burrata is crisp and flavourful, the risotto balls are a guaranteed crowdpleaser, and the prosciutto is always predictably delicate. Meanwhile, the trio of sides – sundried tomatoes, black olives, and parmesan cheese – is the perfect complement to practically every other dish on the table. Personally, I couldn’t get enough of the quinoa and baby spinach salad – that dressing alone proves not all salads are boring. It also pairs perfectly with the rich pumpkin risotto that’s accented with burrata and tomato confit.

Next came the ravioli stuffed with beef and served with sage and a creamy, cheesy white sauce. Depending on when you end up at Primavera, the weekly menu may call for ravioli with a mascarpone cheese filling and slowcooked tomato sauce. I’d be stumped if you asked me which I prefer more! One of the special main courses is the stuffed calamari with avocado purée and beetroot sauce, a veritable must-try for the pescatarians amongst us. If you prefer fish, the seabass platter that entails a perfectly pan-fried piece of fish served on a generous bed of creamy polenta is a satisfying choice. But regardless of how well-rounded the mains are, you must leave room for dessert. After all, sharing the decadent trio of tiramisu, panna cotta, and chocolate tart is an act of love.

This pleasing array of flavours and textures has it all – notes of coffee, a touch of citrus, and dark chocolate aplenty. My advice? Order an espresso to enhance your overall dessert experience. Primavera ought to reside on the culinary radar of singles, couples, and families alike. It really does offer it all: authentic Italian cuisine, a friendly atmosphere, and five-star service. In fact, look no further if you’re seeking a spot for a romantic dinner – your better half deserves it. ✤

Restaurants are expected to re-open when the current restrictions are lifted.
