OFF TO THE RACES

A ‘New Era’ of F1 is set to begin in the Kingdom this month, with the much-awaited Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix promising a weekend of unbelievable fun.

The upcoming race is said to be a once-in-a-generation event in the world of motorsports with a record-breaking 23-race season and an incredible line-up of events and attractions on and off the track. Taking place from March 18 to 20 at the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) in Sakhir, Formula 2 and 3, as well as the Porsche Sprint Cup Middle East, the most competitive one-make motor racing series in the region, are also on the ticket.

Shaikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Chief Executive of the BIC, unveiling the new 2022 F1 car, remarked that: “Our 2022 race is a landmark moment for the sport. Fittingly being held under our slogan ‘A New Era’, the race will usher in the next chapter of F1 following, perhaps, the biggest revolution of rules in the history of the sport.” The new era of Formula 1 sees a wealth of amended regulations on the power unit and tyres, which designers have adapted to meet, resulting in new aerodynamics and an upgraded performance.

Grammy Award-winning producer, songwriter and DJ, Afrojack, is set to stage a spectacular concert over the Grand Prix weekend, accessible for all ticketholders. The Dutch-born musician will be lighting up the stage at the F1 Village vending area on the Friday evening. He will be followed on Saturday night by fellow DJ, producer and songwriter, Don Diablo. As a founding father of the Future House movement, the Dutch artist is widely considered a pioneer in dance music. His latest album, Future, is highly acclaimed for its innovative beats.

Amongst the other acts are Abraham Thill, a street and circus performer, Aras Stilt Band, a percussionist band on stilts, the Funky Style Band, a marching band from Italy, and the Jam Batucada musical show from Spain.

Fans attending the spectacular will be able to enjoy a 42-metre-high Ferris Wheel, offering a great view of surrounding Sakhir, or feel the adrenaline rush of the carousel-like Ghost Rider speed ride.

BIC will be hosting a F1 pre-season testing from March 10 to 12, a crucial opportunity for F1’s teams and drivers to evaluate the performance of their new cars. This event will be open to spectators, offering an early preview of the 2022 cars.

Tickets to this year’s Bahrain Grand Prix are currently available, with children aged three to 12 given a 50% discount, students aged 13 to 17, senior citizens and those with special needs can take advantage of a 25% discount, and university students get 10% off. ✤
