SUMMER FESTIVAL RETURNS

The 13th edition of the much-loved Bahrain Summer Festival will run throughout July.

Not to be beaten by the pandemic, the festival, which is staged by Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities and is a firm favourite on the Kingdom’s summer calendar, is going ahead online with a whole range of performances, events and workshops taking place. Members of the public can join in at the click of a button from the safety of their own homes.

Throughout the month, the festival presents a play, Resto Maryam, on the official Bahrain Summer Festival YouTube channel, where all the events will be available. In addition, there will be a series of performances and workshops held in cooperation with a number of embassies in the Kingdom. On July 4 there will be a Chinese Folk Music Medley performed in collaboration with that country’s embassy and featuring traditional instruments.

July 7 sees the US Embassy stepping up to present Tony Memel and His Band performing a selection of songs, new and old, that you can sing and dance along to.

On July 20, Rehab Metawi will perform with accompaniment from the Bahrain Music Band, courtesy of a collaboration with the Egyptian Embassy. And on July 21, Bahrain’s own Qalali Folk Band takes to the stage, followed by Mohammed bin Faris band on July 22, and Bahrain Police Band on July 23.

A series of workshops will also run throughout the month featuring subjects such as short story development, art in various mediums, music and cookery – which is also country-specific and embassy sponsored. And, specifically for kids, there are games, educational activities and a competition. ✤
