BRAGGING RIGHTS: THE 101 ON MASERATI’S FASTEST SEDANS YET

At a time when the world is embracing a slower pace of life, Maserati is going against the grain – again

The Italian’s marque has released not one, but two new additions to its Trofeo family: Ghibli and Quattroporte. Not only are they the fastest Maserati sedans to date, but they also join luxury SUV Levante in highlighting the brand’s all-Italian DNA. The colours chosen for the launch are those of the country’s flag: green for Quattroporte, white for Levante, and red for Ghibli, all of which combine with burnished chrome-work and glossy red trims for an aggressive yet elegant look. As for the pièce de résistance?

A bold V8 engine built at the Ferrari plant and developed to deliver equally impressive performances on the rear-engine sedans. Additional specs reveal a power output of 580 HP at 6,250 rpm and peak torque of 730 Nm. Although a first for Ghibli, the V8 engine has already been used in the past on the 530 HP version of the Quattroporte GTS. Today, the 580 HP V8 engine is available on the new Ghibli, Quattroporte, and Levante Trofeo models in full compliance with fuel efficiency and emissions standards.

The result? Both Ghibli and Quattroporte Trofeo can claim a top speed of 326 km/h. Like their predecessor, the new models also incorporate the Integrated Vehicle Control system, with a specific set-up that guarantees enhanced driving dynamics, greater active safety, and – you guessed it – the type of thrills that only this luxury label can provide. Also included is Launch Control (a function that first appeared on Levante Trofeo) to fully unleash the engine’s power. Admittedly, while it’s the engine sound that sets every Maserati apart, the Trofeo collection will be made distinct as a result of special accents – read: twin vertical bars in a Black Piano finish on the front grille and the introduction of carbon fibre on the front air duct trims and rear extractor.

Over at the rear, the light clusters have been completely restyled, with a boomerang-like profile inspired by the 3200 GT and Alfieri concept car. The Trofeo characterisation continues inside, with a new onboard panel that displays an exclusive interface once on, while the headrests bear the Trofeo badge with the name in 3D relief. The exclusivity also extends to the interior upholstery, courtesy of full-grain Pieno Fiore leather. And come day-to-day driving, the assisted driving function can now be activated on ordinary highways and urban roads thanks to Active Driving Assist. Sold.
